EY has announced the launch of ‘On the Money with David McWilliams’, a new flagship video series for EY Financial Services Ireland. The series is a TV-style, current affairs programme designed to explore the most important issues shaping Ireland’s financial system and economy.

Hosted by economist and broadcaster David McWilliams, the six-part monthly series brings together leading voices from across industry, policy and media. Each episode focuses on a single, substantive theme, using real-world consumer behaviour as a lens to examine deeper structural and economic challenges.

The series is available on FS TV, EY’s new video-first platform hosted on EYFS.ie. Designed as a destination for high-quality, editorial content, FS TV reflects a shift towards more engaging, broadcast-style conversations on complex financial services topics.

Episode 1: ‘Make Your Money Work’

The first episode tackles one of the most significant and underexplored issues in the Irish economy: why households are holding billions in deposits rather than putting their money to work through investment, and what needs to change.

The discussion is set against a backdrop of major policy developments, including the EU Savings and Investment Union and Ireland’s Finance for Ireland strategy, positioning the episode at the centre of a national conversation on savings and investment.

Joining David McWilliams for this episode are:

-Colin Ryan, Country Lead, Financial Services, EY Ireland
-Sinead Ryan, Personal Finance Columnist (Irish Independent) & Presenter (Virgin TV)
-Brian Hayes, CEO, Banking & Payments Federation Ireland

The episode explores the cultural, structural and policy barriers to investment participation, and what these patterns reveal about Ireland’s financial system.

A series with depth and perspective

Across six episodes, ‘On the Money with David McWilliams’ will explore:

  • Making your money work- Ireland’s savings and investment challenge
  • Protecting your money fraud, financial crime and digital risk
  • Spending your money wisely -behaviour, debt and financial resilience
  • Geopolitics and global economic risk
  • Technology and AI in financial services
  • Regulation, competitiveness and Ireland’s FDI proposition

Each episode combines consumer insight with industry and policy analysis, offering a deeper understanding of how financial systems shape everyday outcomes.

Designed as a current affairs-style editorial programme, On the Money moves beyond traditional corporate content to provide independent, thought-provoking discussion on the issues that matter for Ireland’s financial future.

Commenting on the launch, Colin Ryan said:

“Financial services is a complex ecosystem, and understanding it requires more than just looking at numbers or transactions. On the Money uses consumer behaviour to illuminate the systems, infrastructure and regulatory challenges that shape the sector. Through FS TV, we’re creating a platform for open, informed discussion on the issues that really matter.”

Commenting on his collaboration with EY, David McWilliams said:

What I like about this series is that it starts where real life actually happens, not in spreadsheets or boardrooms, but in how people think about and use their money every day.  Too often, we talk about financial services as if it exists in isolation, when in reality it’s deeply connected to culture, behaviour and trust. What we’re trying to do with On the Money is join those dots, to make sense of the system by looking at it through the eyes of the consumer.

Working with EY has allowed us to bring both perspectives together -the lived experience of individuals and the structural realities of the industry-and that’s where the most interesting conversations are.”
